- Moultrie Co. Joins UWDMI

Sullivan, IL, July 30, 2009- Moultrie County United Way and United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois (UWDMI) announced that they have agreed  to merge with the goals of using resources efficiently and maximizing contributions to local service agencies.

Under the terms of the agreement, Moultrie County will become a division of the United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illiniois, with an advisory board of local residents who will decide how to allocate funds raised in Moultrie County and continue to assist with fundraising activities.  This local colunteer group will benefit from the support of the new organization's eight staff members, increasing operantional efficiency and eliminating duplication of effort.  Implementation began in early 2009 and was finalized on June 23, 2009.

According to the board chairs, the fundamental activities that blong in the community, such as local fundraising and allocation, remain unchanged.  Money raised locally will continue to stay local, as will allocation decision-making.

"Our merger reflects our commitment to combining resources on a regional level in order to make a greater impact in our local communities.  Change is difficult; we have recognized the importance of making United Way more efficient while maintaining the local involvement of volunteers in determining needs and appropriate funding.  We feel that the new organization will offer donors the best of both worlds and ultimately provide more help to those in need in our communities," said Carol Elder, president of the Moultrie Co. United Way.

"This consolidation makes United Way an even better choice for companies and individuals who want to give back to their communities," said Denise Smith, Executive Director of United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois.  "The merger reflects our commitment to combininb resources on a regional level in order to have greater impact on the communities we serve."

While the merger joins DeWitt, Macon and Moultire counties in operations, each county maintains its identity in solving community issues.  Carol Elder shared, "The Moultrie County board of directors fully supports this partnership and looks forward to the numerous dividends our county will reap."
